Description
All are welcome! BAM is a ministry that is funded by people praying and donating funds so that we can thrive at VU. We talk about how to incorporate one’s sport and faith together. We desire to build strong men and women of God who work towards excellence, selflessness, and integrity in their sport, while helping to give them tools to develop into good citizens that spread the Good News of Christ when they depart Vanguard.
BAM offers several avenues of ministry:
BAM Nights: We offer large group bi-monthly meetings. We usually have 50-70 student-athletes who attend for food, fellowship and a dynamic guest speaker. Chapel credit is offered and it is a great environment in which student-athletes can grow in their faith together.
BAM Discipleship: Our staff is available to meet individually with any student-athlete who wants a tailor-made pathway to a deeper relationship with our Lord.
BAM Small Groups: Gender-specific, cross-sports small groups are designed not only to help build community within our athletic department but to deepen the faith walk of our student-athletes as well as tackle generational battle they face like identity, etc.
Why should donors support?
BAM is run through fundraising. It's been a connective way to have athletes dive into their faith (in a discipleship capacity or in larger groups). We are blessed by walking with these students as they seek Truth. Jesus met people at the table, and we do our best to emulate that model of providing food & drink and share the Word. Our goal is for them to deepen their faith and help them into a position to go make disciples.
Student Impact
"This ministry has directly impacted me by quite literally saving my life. The [discipleship] group itself and the people in the group constantly lifted me up when I was at my lowest and kept pouring the love of God out over me, giving me the strength to keep moving forward." Recent VU Grad
How will the funds be used?
Jesus often used food & drink as a way to connect with people. It creates a comfortable environment to be vulnerable. The funds raised go directly to 3 things:
- To provide food for our larger gatherings, including BAM Nights and Small Groups
- To be able to meet students over coffee for one-on-one discipleship or mentoring
- To fund our salary for the BAM Director Kris Dorn
