First2VU Student Scholarships
Our goal is to provide five $1,000 First2VU scholarships to students who are the first in their families to attend college. Our community is comprised of many people who were the first in their families to go to college, including VU President Michael Beals, 43 percent of the full-time faculty, and 19 percent of the staff.
How will funds be used?
Your investment will provide five $1,000 scholarships to first-generation students.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 to award scholarships to five first-generation students here at Vanguard. We know that one of the hardships first-generation students face is financial hardships. Through the scholarship fund, we hope to help ease the divide so that students can focus on their academics rather than finances.
Student Impact
“The First2VU scholarship will definitely allow me to earn my degree at Vanguard University. I have greatly appreciated the extra support of this scholarship for my last couple semesters at Vanguard.” Thania Castellano ’23
Why should donors support this fund?
Vanguard University has a rich history of attracting, supporting, and retaining first-generation college students. Currently, 65% of Vanguard's community is made up of first-generation college students.
Our club exists to help our students with their needs while navigating the new experience of attending a four-year university. Our goal is to serve and celebrate first-generation college students throughout their time at Vanguard and beyond.
As a liberal arts university, Vanguard’s academic experience encourages exploration across disciplines, enabling students to understand how what they learn in the classroom fits into God’s call on their lives. The University’s curriculum challenges students to not limit their pursuit of knowledge only to what gets them a job, but that develops character and teaches them to communicate clearly, think critically, seek truth and make decisions with Godly wisdom.
Through this model, students leave with more than a degree; they graduate with skills to be confident, Spirit-empowered leaders who embrace and engage with questions of life and faith and contribute to their society.
