Kinesiology: Move. Learn. Serve. Give.

The Freed Center for Leadership and Service is providing the Kinesiology Department with new lab space. As part of our new lab research initiatives, we want to resume cognitive assessment tests. This type of testing requires specialized software and computer equipment. This will allow us to resume our nutritional and psychological performance-based research regarding attention and psychomotor speed, executive function, and memory.

How will these funds be used?

Giving Day funds will be applied toward costly software licenses. We are trying to find a package that provides a perpetual license vs. yearly license fees. Specialized equipment is often required, and we have some of this, but it will need upgrading. We have worked with Cambridge Cognition and hope to continue with them.

Student Impact

“In kinesiology there is a major emphasis on hands-on work. The new lab is an extraordinary opportunity to practice skills learned in the classroom setting, apply them in real life and demonstrate them on our peers.” Wendy Lopez ‘22

Why should donors contribute to your particular project?

Brain health is essential for all. We want to focus on ways to use nutritional supplements and brain exercises to improve individual's brain health. We will focus on aging adults and athletes. This software will also allow us to assess brain health after injury (such as concussion) to help determine the effects of the injury on cognitive function and recovery stages.
