Theatre Arts: Journey to the Center of the Earth: A Multi-media and Live Theatre Production
The VU Theatre Department is seeking funding for our Spring 2025 multimedia production of “Journey to the Center of the Earth.” We raised $5,000 through Giving Day 2023, but we still need an additional $8,000 to fully fund the innovative theatre production.
Why should donors support this fund?
This project reflects the combination of live theatre with television and film media. Two of our three theatre major concentrations are Technical Production and Stage & Screen Acting/Directing. This multimedia production allows the program to not only entertain our patrons, but also bring a higher level of education to our majors in these concentrations. This production will give students first-hand experience with green screen acting, live video feed, miniatures, and live theatre combined.
Student Impact
The production of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” will give our Technical Production majors firsthand experience in bringing all elements of camera/screen work to the Lyceum Theater. Students will learn to combine the elements of screen and live theatre in a creative and fun approach that has never been done at VU. Our Stage & Screen Acting/Directing majors will also learn to navigate green screen acting as well as live stage at the same time. This experience is crucial to their education. We will be able to do more multimedia productions in the future with the proper equipment.

How will funds be used?
To produce “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” we need to purchase a green screen, computer equipment that works with our cameras, build more miniatures, and hire a technical/video and audio project manager.
